Knitting's Big Bang
Every day there's a new reason to thank your divinity of choice (or Al Gore) for the internet. Without it, I never would have seen yesterday's Port Townsend Leader Online, which had a truly amazing story about a local woman who apparently was knitting so fast that one of her needles exploded.
If for no other reason, go there NOW to see an amazing photo of the blasted needle.
I'm considering switching to bamboo. Though I guess if you really knit fast enough you could start a small fire, or send small splinters flying every which way (and who can hear their mother saying RIGHT NOW, "You'll put your eye out with that thing!")

I showed my husband the article and he said that it was yet another sign that it is dangerous to knit while he's driving.
I told get over it...

Dear God, how fast do you have to knit to *explode* your needle? Get yourself to the store and buy some non-metal needles. Much safer.

Boy, it's a good thing that I knit so slow- I don't think I could give up my metal needles!

Maybe she should be a spokeswoman for Denise Interchangeables -- 100% explosion free! I'm so glad they posted the picture.

That's just wacky...

I hope the FAA doesn't hear this story, just when they were relaxing the rules regarding knitting on airplanes!

That is absolutely crazy. I'm not sure I'd have believed it without photos.

Ok, that's weird. Maybe I'll wear a flak jacket to KnitNY.

yeah, my friend Joel at Lantern Moon told me about that. There's a fraction too much friction! Oh - gotta love them Finn Brothers for the excellent 80s quotes!
