I'm nursing a raging headcold, and I gotta squeeze a nap in with the Martian while I still can. In brief, I finished the Dadscarf:
It ended up taking 6 balls of Debbie Bliss Merino Chunky, and was a fun, fairly fast knit. Thanks again to Amy and Rebecca for their terrific pattern suggestions, your prizes are on the way!
I was on the receiving end of some delicious Koigu this week, courtesy of sweet, sweet Maggi:
A thousand thanks! Socks? Soon, soon...something else on the needles now...something blindingly original; the pattern that's got knitters across the blogosphere cracking jokes about STDs. I'm blaming Jackie for the yarn I'm using; her gorgeous lightweight version distracted me from the Morehouse I originally wanted, and redirected me to my stash...where I came up with this:
Filati's Shine, which I've had for about a year and had NO idea what I was going to do with it. I like how it's knitting up, and have had more people come up to me on the bus and subway to ask, "What IS that?" than have approached me in all the time I've been knitting. I'm a little concerned about the dropped stitches, because in the first column I dropped they look a bit loose and sloppy:
If you've made one - is that normal, or is it this yarn? It's a polyamide/rayon blend, so there's not much spring in it. I'm hoping that blocking with even things out a little, but I'm not sure. I guess I'll have a better idea when I've dropped a few more, but if you've been there already, I'd love to hear about it.

Wow, that's gonna be the coolest Clapotis. I love the tufts of fuzzy color. I have no idea if my yarn will be that loosey goosey on the drops since I haven't even gotten there yet!

It's probably the yarn--which I can't wait to see in person.
And I love the scarf for your dad!

The dad scarf looks great. It took a second for me to realize the thing to the right of it is a paw. I hope it's still attached to the cat....

I think it is the yarn as well. I am doing my Clapotis in Berroco suede and have noticed that the twisted stitch to the left of the drop isn't as tight as the one to the right ..... I believe it is because in the twist to the left the forward side of the stitch leads into the drop, whereas the on the right, the drop goes into that stitch through the back. sound plausible?
