Good thing I keep a notebook by my bed, because I'd hate to have forgotten this, come morning:
GODSTER - the website where gods and goddesses representing global cultures of the past and present come to frolic. Jesus links to Freya, Shiva makes nice with Hecate and the Green Man, Isis and Buddha have playdates with Yahweh, Okame and Huitzilopochtli. Pictures would be available except in cases of uncorporeality.
I'm not really clued in to what's going on in the gaming community - anyone know if there's already a role-playing game out there where the deities of the players' choosing compete for global domination? Players would have to be versed in mythology of not only their deity but of their competitors as well, to maximize their godd/ess' strenghts and anticipate the strategies of the others. Wouldn't that be interesting? And educational, of course.
The Martian's got a chest cold, and is wheezing, wheezing, wheezing. His doctor prescribed a couple of somethings yesterday, and we're visiting said doctor today to make sure he doesn't need something more. Overall, he's in good spirits, and has discovered that the wheeziness enables him to laugh in a bizarre cartoonish way, which amuses him to no end but is freaking me right the fuck out. Unfortunately, we were supposed to fly out to Florida tomorrow for a vacation, which now looks like it'll have to be postponed at least a couple of days. Not really such a big deal - I'm just hating to hear him croaking like this. Makes me mad, it does, that I can't do anything to stop it NOW. I know he'll be OK, but damnit, I want it to stop NOW.
Pinku Kat is visiting New York this week, and she gamely crossed not one but TWO rivers to get here yesterday when the Martian's hacking made it impossible for me to come to the city; and then she got drenched by a sudden shower when we took the Martian to the local park. But she was incredibly good-natured about the whole thing - she's good people, people. Brought me a fab knitting mag from Tokyo, some adorable toe-socks, and a black cat coin purse that is almost too cute to use. She's pretty cute herself, by the way (that's her, on the left.)
It was great meeting you, girl - enjoy the rest of your trip and happy thrifting!
Oh, and knitting content - should probably throw some of that in already, shouldn't I? I just went through a backlog of photos I've been meaning to post for a while, so here's a bit of knitterly visuals:
Pilchuk, my new drop spindle (purchased from Boogie Knits Amy's store, which I can't seem to link to right now. The roving is some lovely mystery wool from Downtown Yarns.
My sweet sister and her wonderful girlfriend picked up this unbelievable handspun silk from a collective in New Mexico - while they were on vacation, no less. The color can simply not be captured in photos, it's all glowy and deep purply-blue, a hue that defies description. I am SO not worthy.
Xtina's book is out! Lots of fun patterns - she very sweetly sent me some Crystal Palace Glam for one of these babies. Also some little yummies from Article Pract, where I'll be heading on my next visit to NoCal. Probably first thing when I get off the plane.
And finally - Green Acres.
The yarn is Patagonia, a bulky hand-dyed cotton by Araucania. Pattern was my own - I'll post that and the other specs later, when I've had the chance to gather my notes.
