I just saw Naked again, recently (and if you've never seen it, all I can say is...man, they don't make 'em like that THESE days. Mostly plotless - but in a GOOD way, where you keep watching because the dialogue crackles and the characters drag you along by your eyebrows - it's whipsmart and nasty as shit. Has it really been 12 freakin' years since its release? Jesus, I'm ancient.) That was my introduction to the sublime Mike Leigh and the wonderfully talented group he works with in so many of his films...anyway, my point here is that it was also my first viewing of David Thewlis, who is nothing short of riveting. And there's an early scene where someone asks him what the hell his problem is (a question that begs repetition throughout the film, since he plays such an utter asshole)and he answers, "Well, I used to be a werewolf. But I'm all right nooOOOOOWOOOOOOOO!"
Which is, you know, funny. Considering.
at 5 a.m. i was already dressed, and just putting the finishing touches on the 'do. now it's 6 and i'm at work. god i hate morning. :(

Have you seen "Life is Sweet?" I highly recommend it.
I agree that Mike Leigh is a singular talent.

I think Naked is the only Leigh film I haven't seen. I finally saw Vera Drake this weekend.

Ooo, I just went to Netflix and it looks like all of Leigh's early work has come out on DVD.
